Lovebirds 2021: A Collection. Made With Love.

Launched February 6, 2021

I asked myself so many questions and looked through 1000’s of pictures searching for the perfect partners for the 2021 Love Birds, an annual collection. When researching, I would wonder what they might be saying to each other. With each pair, I would imagine they are soulmates spending a lifetime together or that they’re meeting for the first time only coming together for the year to make and rear a family. I’m always curious: How do they court one another? How do they choose their partners?

The more I watch and paint birds, the more I see how much they are like us. Each species loves in its own way: bringing home sweet berries, serenading by circling and dancing, defending their home, and caring for their mate when they are sick.

Can lovebirds inspire and teach us how to strengthen our own relationships? Take devoted Blue Jays: They mate for life, work so hard as parents to teach their young, and will take care of each other when one falls ill. Or how about the most romantic courtship of Cedar Waxwings? The male woos a female by doing a hopping dance and passing berries or pieces of fruit to the female. If the female is interested, she will do a hopping dance and pass the fruit or berry back to the male!

Made with love every step of the way, I released this collection just in time for Valentine's Day but with intent to honor partnerships year round. These pairs have a life force—One I hope keeps people wondering and imagining each time they look at my paintings.

I would love to hear if what you make of the relationships between each pair. Can you hear them talking? What conversations do you think they’re having?
